From Interview to Dialogue: For Connection and Mutual Understanding

Master’s Thesis Project

Interviews, dialogues, workshops2025
What if interviews could not only collect stories but also create connections? In this graduation project, I explored how interviews can become pathways to understanding. Inspired by my feelings of alienation as a teenager and my work as a documentary filmmaker, I investigated how interviews can help people to share the meaning behind their life experiences. I used tools like lifelines and guided tours to conduct interviews with design students and people with connective tissue disorders. These methods gave participants control over their narratives, and they sparked personal insights. By watching the recorded interviews together and engaging in group dialogues, participants found recognition and connection, with each other and within themselves. My thesis shows how interviews can build connections, rather than simply extracting stories, both in education as well as in community settings.
